Welsh Artists: Kevin Sinnott
Carrying on my efforts to promote some Welsh painters. Born in 1947, Kevin Sinnott is among the most popular of contemporary Welsh artists: he adds humour, colour and warmth (of both emotions and sunshine) to the working class South Wales valleys. In the arts and media I think too often working class lives tend to be portrayed- filled with negative connotations if not hostility- as miserable, hopeless and violent. Sinnott provides an antidote that is not escapist so much as fond and uplifting. His best known painting is Running away with the Hairdresser. Along with his interest in human relationships, interactions, activities and play in local settings, it soon becomes apparent he's fond of breezes and their effect on skirts and washing.
