All these films are worth seeing. Suggestions welcome, especially any good American films I've missed. Taking seriously the lives of women has not been Hollywood's forte. In contrast, Iranian directors of both genders have addressed issues of female repression (as well they might). Among male directors, the masterpieces of Mizoguchi and Dreyer have often been centred on women.
