A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
For starters, Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. I have great respect for Jackie Erle Haley as a character actor but his portrayal of Freddy lacks the charm, the witt and yes the unique brand of caustic dark humor that the original Freddy had.
And again this is a case of a good story ruined by the missuse of special effects.

The Amityville Horror (2005)
Let's forget about the whole "based on true facts" thing that both the original and remake tried to bask on.
The original did not have the best script ever, but it managed to be real, honest and scary; minimum special effects, lots of good acting and you've got a cult classic.
The remake relied on new tecnologies and yes a whole lot of CGI that did not helped the very thin and non credible new twists of the plot.

The Fog (2005)
When the best thing yo have to say about a movie is: The guy from Smallville is in it. You know there is something very wrong with that film.
The new script failed in actually making any sense. And no amount of special effects can ever make up for a bad script and bad acting.

The Wicker Man (2006)
The original dealt a lot on the clash of cultures and religions, the moral conundrums of human kind and yes a lot of nudity. The remake is a horrible attempt at making a horror movie out a script that is laughable. There is no moral drama, no conundrum, no nothing except Nicolas Cage runing around an island for no real reason what so ever.
The Stepford Wives (2004)
Where to begin?!!! The original is a sci/fy sort of sex revolution satire that captures the ever changing roles of women in modern society. And the men that can't seem to cope with the changing times.
The remake was turned into a half baked comedy of sorts. That even though it landen an impresive cast fell short of delivering anything even remotely as good as the original. Bad plot twists, horrible and sexist. Avoid it like the plague!

The Grudge (2004)
One of the first and worse japanese horror movie remakes. Even with the same director, production team, locations, etc of the original hit movie; it manages to suck big time. Lets just say, a whole lot of the charm and scariness of the original got lost in traslation.

Friday the 13th (2009)
This is a campy attempt at craming a whole saga into one film. Basically a collection of "best moments" from the entire series, with very little or no cohesion. Bad script, bad acting, bad, bad, bad. Go watch the originals instead!
Where the original was tasteful and left most of the gore to the imagination of the audience, this Rob Zombie remake not only ups the number of deaths in the film, but adds a ton more graphic violence, nudity and bloody death to it. Which the original story did not need.
While it was interesting to watch Michael Myers as a kid and his evolution into full fleshed teen slasher, it took a toll on the story. In the original, Michael Myers is terrifing just because we don't know what the heck is going on in his head!

Diabolique (1996)
The original french film was not only suspenceful, but managed to draw you in and actually like the lead female characters. The remake does not.
Despite de fact that it had a star studded cast (Sharon Stones, Chaz Palmintieri, Cathy Bates, etc) The script failed the actors and the actors just could not make it belieavable nor entertaining.

Awesome original movies that rocked, but got turned into bad remakes.
