Most men won't understand why many women would choose such a "sappy" movie as their favorite, but it's all about romance. To a certain degree, romance has been cast to the wind in this world, and women's stature has grown. But there is a point where sweeping someone off the ground is more endearing than "watcha say we go get some pizza?" or similar. Nowadays, we let men think too much, which is why they spend more time with their buddies and not with their girlfriends! :)
The first time I saw this movie I was with a group of people with whom it wasn't appropriated to go and make jokes about farting and other body sounds, about malevolent lt. governors, about racial issues, or other such comments. Thankfully, it was dark and no one could watch me laugh my ass off! Overtime, I kept an account of how many times I'd seen the film: I quit counting at 17, and chalk my fondness of this film up to a keen liking of Gene Wilder.
The Man Who Would Be King (1975)
While the movie doesn't hold up to me nowadays, it holds a special place in my mind about life outside of the country in which I grew up, and how other people live. It instilled in me a lifelong interest in Freemasonry, in the British Empire, and in that second of the world that existed in the late 10th century.
It's got its fights and action, but it's not based in the immediate battles--our "heroes" are former Army buddlies out to get a fresh start in a strange place, and are eagerly training young Kafiristanis for battles. That places them in a war filled nation, and they do what they know best: wreak havoc and war.
It's only when they divert their goals and try to believe in their own mythology that ends them up in a place where there is nothing of significance in anything other than war.

Inception (2010)
This movie intrigued the hell out of me. For weeks, I tried to figure out the puzzle itself, but it kept on making me think long after its imagery had faded. Well done, Christopher Nolan!
Ghostbusters (1984)
Bill Murray is great, and the whole movie was a lot of fun. It also came from a time in my life when life was simpler and more fun, and I look at it as such--a pleasant embracing of total nonsense, elevating it to hilarity. Something I needed at that moment, and will always remember this film making me laugh.
My first "feminist" movie! I don't know what to saw so much about this film, but that I often felt like one of Miss Brodie's "gals." As I went to an all-girls' school myself, that wasn't too much of a stretch, but as I grew up, I found the message that women were as good as men heighten in me, but escape the greater public. Even now, I feel sad that 1/2 of the American people still refuse to acknowledge the priorities in their own lives.
Taken (2008)
Pretty powerful proof that "love conquers all." Outdated simile, perhaps, and "love" in a different meaning, but a man will do anything to rescue his child.
There are some big holes in the show's logic, but who cares? After the first bad guy is conveniently killed by a moving truck, it's no longer a waiting game, and an outright war on sex slavery.
I've been an admirer of Liam Neeson for a long time, and it was a nice ride. ;)

Just a list of my own top ten movies through the years, with some notable honorable mentions. I know it's eclectic, as it covers a broad area, but here it is, anyhow. Enjoy!
You can see with the honorable mentions that I became a fangirl over time which was inevitable.
