Welsh Artists: Christopher Williams
Christopher Williams (1873โ1934) was a Welsh artist who made something of a name for himself in the early 20th century with his landscapes and portraits (including of some important figures), but who remains relatively unknown in Wales today. Still, a recent retrospective has helped raise his profile. He particularly enjoyed holidaying with his family by the sea at Barmouth and his pleasing paintings there contrast with some of his grander subjects. He was apparently a decent kindly man with concern for the less well off. Note, as well as his paintings of his wife in red dress and his self portrait, his quite charming painting of his young son (who later became an artist too) in judge's garb. The painting Branwen is of a Welsh mythological figure from the great medieval Mabinogi(on) tales
