I watched 60 films today... April Fool! :)
One new first time viewing.
One new first time viewing.
Sorority Row (2009)
It wasn't scary! Yayy! To be honest, I didn't even jump. I felt dangerous :P

The cast was quite good, Briana Evigan was fantastic, as were Rumer Willis and Jamie Chung. Everyone else was good too, as realistic as it is possible to be in a "horror", but they were so bitchy! Grr... Also, 1970s Star Wars babe Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) made a surprising turn as the feisty, gun-wielding "House-mother", Mrs. Crenshaw.

One film today, it is the second time I've seen it.
The Reader (2008)
Love this film! I enjoyed it more this time. The fact that I've seen it before meant that the technically paedophilic sex scenes were less of a shock... And was able to appreciate the beauty and tragedy of the story.
Kate Winslet is amazing, as usual, and truly deserved that Oscar for her frankly heartbreaking performance as Hanna Schmitz, a former concentration camp guard. It looks like 2008 (with both this and Revolutionary Road) was a pretty good (if not amazing) year for our Kate! Never been prouder to be British!

Ralph Fiennes and David Kross also give great performances as the same person, Michael Berg, at diferent points in time. Also, another great supporting role from Lena Olin, who moved me to tears. Brilliant script, story (adapted from a German novel) and direction from Stephen Daldry.
It's fabulous and I definitely recommend it!

Two films that I haven't seen in a while.
Coraline (2009)
I absolutely love this film! It is perfection. The voice cast is fantastic. The animation is fantastic! I know "stop-motion" movies take years to make, but in this case all the hard work definitely paid off. I love it!

JodieBoner's rating:

Fame (2009) (2009)
I love this film! It's soundtrack, the actors (though most are relatively unheard of), the way it follows each and every character's individual journey. The script is a little weak in places, but it's still good. Overall, it's a great movie and sadly, it's very much underrated.

Two films today, one second time viewing and one favourite.
The Hunger Games (2012)
SO much better the second time around! There were no noisy dickheads in the cinema today :) I love this film so much now! I even cried at Rue's death this time! ;'(

The story, however disgraceful the idea may be, is original and actually quite a good concept. I have not read the books but I would like to congratulate Suzanne Collins. The cast is fantastic, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley (from American Beauty), Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, Isabelle Fuhrman (from Orphan) etc.

My least favourite of the original trilogy (Dead Man's Chest is in my opinion the best and At World's End falls inbetween the two), this is still a great film.

Fantastic cast (To view the entire cast click here), great story (although it takes at least 3 watches to fully understand it), costumes, script, scenery, everything. It even contains one of the best movie quotes of all time. The quote in question is of course when Elizabeth says:
BOOM. LOVE IT.
Oh, and here's that fantastic quote in action:
BOOM. Bitch.

Jumper (2008)
I didn't understand it. Some of the acting was kinda bad and there weren't any jaw dropping moments.

JodieBoner's rating:

Chatroom (2010)
This was great. I didn't get it at first but it's fantastic! A little disturbing...

Great concept, the cast was brilliant, Aaron Johnson (who has a gay kiss, yayy, if only for literally a second) plays retarded, angry and corruptive very well. Imogen Poots & Matthew Beard were also fantastic.
I recommend it, just don't watch it alone. It's not scary, just freaks you out...

Just one film today, another new first time viewing.

April 8th (Easter Sunday)
Four and a half films today. The half was another movie virginity loss...
Puss in Boots (2011)
I love this, another fantastic animation! The whole thing is just so beautiful to watch. A great story, cast, wicked humour... It's got it all! It's just fantastic, it even has a Lady Gaga song at the end (AMERICANO), yayy!

JodieBoner's rating:

An animated short that came with the DVD of the film, it's brilliant! It's so funny, so sarcastic, it's just my cup of tea. Granted it's only 12 minutes long, but I was laughing all the way through!

JodieBoner's rating:

I haven't seen the debut movie of every studio there is, but I guarantee you that if you did, Toy Story would be the best of them. It's so bloody beautiful. This trilogy has proven to me that there are exceptions to my rule (my rule being that in a trilogy, the middle film is always the best). Because, in my opinion, Toy Story 2 is the worst of the three. Well, least best because I still like it (and I love this just as much as TS3).
My VHS of this has disappeared too, devastated.

JodieBoner's rating:

Shrek the Third (2007)
(I know it's not exactly a trilogy, but the original first three) Now, this is a trilogy that proves my rule, Shrek 2 is awesome. This is still great, it just doesn't have the Fairy Godmother.

JodieBoner's rating:

Charlie's Angels (2000)
Another of my favourites. Sexy, funny, violent, awesome!
Great script, story, characters, cast, humour, fight scenes, everything! Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore... Fantastic.

Also starring Bill Murray, Sam Rockwell and a nice little cameo from now-Oscar Nominee Melissa McCarthy. Love it!

One of the best films ever today!
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
If not the best, certainly within the top 5 Disney films ever. I fucking adore it! And it officially has the best/worst (however you wanna think of it, she's number 1) Disney Villain ever. And one of my favourite movie characters, Merriweather!

Chicago (2002)
I absolutely fucking loved it! I went out and bought the DVD straight away. (Literally, before I watched Lost In Translation). Without a doubt one of the best movie musicals I've ever seen, and what an amazing cast! Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, John C. Reilly, Queen Latifah, Christine Baranski...

I couldn't help but notice that Catherine was so much better at dancing than Renée was...

Lost in Translation (2003)
Well, there wasn't really a storyline... But it was enjoyable enough. Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray were both very good, and the film was quite funny. I felt the title was as appropriate as possible, because I truly was Lost In Translation. So much Japanese!

Three new first time viewings.
Being John Malkovich (1999)
Didn't get it. At all. Weird shit, but good. Funny. And the cast was great! John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and of course, John Malkovich. I want to know who came up the story, because their mind must be totally warped!

Also, contained a sassy little cameo from the one and only (Academy Award Winning Actress) Octavia Spencer, love her!

Horrid Henry: The Movie (2011)
Well, I understood this! :P Not much to it. It was so good, to see how every character is played. I've read the books when I was little and watched the TV series, but that's a cartoon so it's not the same effect. But this was really interesting!

Anjelica Huston as Miss Battle-Axe, fantastic casting! And a brilliant Scottish accent on her part.

West Side Story (1961)
Fucking brilliant. Almost as good as Chicago (the other musical I watched on Netflix), I'll admit that musicals are my fave genre... I don't usually like what I call "dancey-dancey" musicals, but this was great! Natalie Wood, beautiful, talented... RIP honey x

Once Upon a Mattress (2005)
AMAZING. Mr Matthew Morrison God of the Sex AND Zooey Deschanel in the same thing?!? Yes please!

For those who don't know, it's a musical version of The Princess and the Pea and it's fantastic!

JodieBoner's rating:

The Switch (2010)
Okay, let's think about this... A romance revolving around sperm donation, and released in the same year as The Back-Up Plan, which is kind of about artificial insemination (but that was better than this)... Firstly though, this cast was fantastic! Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman (who I'm a little infatuated with), Patrick Wilson (registered hottie), Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis.

JodieBoner's rating:

Requiem for a Dream (2000)
I didn't understand this that much, but it was a very dramatic. Mind you, it's Darren Aronofsky. I think the cast was brilliant: Jared Leto, Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Connelly and Ellen Burstyn (who in my opinion made the whole thing). She was fabulous!

Also, I found the last 10 minutes almost unbearable to watch! My heart broke!

FIVE more new first time viewings.
Not scary, just weird. But then again, it was the 70s. I'm not sure what was scary back then... I think the acting was quite good though. Especially Sissy Spacek, who is in the movie adaptation of may favourite book (The Help).

JodieBoner's rating:

Obsessed (2009)
I don't know why no one likes this film. I like it. I watched for Beyoncé, and Beyoncé is what I got. Only a bad-ass bitch of a Beyoncé! Love it! The story is a little far-fetched I admit, yes. But so what? Ali Larter is good at being the crazy sexy stalker bitch and Idris Elba was good at getting stuck in between.

JodieBoner's rating:

Fantastic! I saw My Week With Marilyn back in August, and have been desperate to see some of Marilyn Monroe's films ever since! I watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in December and loved it, and now this! She's brilliant!

Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis were also fab!

The Beaver (2011)
I'm sorry, but what the fuck? This film is warped. Seriously though, I liked it! Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Anton Yelchin and my new favourite Jennifer Lawrence = good cast. Jodie Foster also directed! The story had a few little side-stories which I think were better than the actual main idea of a beaver puppet on a guy's hand that takes over him and forces him to cut off his own arm just get rid and get his life back.

JodieBoner's rating:

Another none-scary "horror". Although I do love Sarah Michelle Gellar, who I believe met her husband (Freddie Prinze Jr.) whilst filming this very movie, they later appeared together in Scooby-Doo (as Daphne and Fred) and its sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, Anne Heche and Johnny Galecki are also this film.

Peacock (2010)
Strange. I need to stop watching puzzling films because this just confused the shit out of me! I'm not entirely sure what was going on with Cillian Murphy's character but he was very good at it! Susan Sarandon was in it too. And a nice rare dramatic role from Ellen Page, one of my faves.

Look! He doesn't look like a man in drag at all! He actually looks like quite a feminine woman! Pretty...

Drag Me to Hell (2009)
The most disgusting thing I have ever seen. It's not scary, it's vile. Although the performances and the script are quite good... And one of my crushes, Justin Long is in it. Yayy! Made it all better! (Or not, ew.)

JodieBoner's rating:

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
It now officially breaks my heart that Heath Ledger is dead, he was so beautiful! RIP x
This was quite a good film, though I don't really like Julia Stiles that much... No idea why, just not a fan... Also in this film there was Allison Janney (seriously though, she's in everything) and a teenage, baby-faced, adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt! Awww....

Rachel Getting Married (2008)
Fantastic! I loved the style it was filmed in, it was so... (sounds stupid) real! Great story, and great cast. Well, Anne Hathaway. I am in love with her, I want to be her friend/lover/husband/significant other. Also, the dramatic really showed why she earned that Oscar nomination... beautiful...

It was a great film about real people in real situations (and as previously mentioned up there ^, filmed in a real style :P). Loved it.

Dear John (2010)
Hhmm... I really liked it, but I expected it to better/sadder. Oh well, Channing Tatum shirtless and Amanda Seyfried - makes up for it! Love them both! Very dramatic though...

JodieBoner's rating:

She's Out of My League (2010)
Hil-ar-i-ous! Seriously though, please watch it! Quite a few hotties/cute people in this too! Okay first you got Jay Baruchel who I think is abbsolutely adorable! Then you got T.J. Miller (attractive), then Kyle Bornheimer (great arms), Geoff Stults (also attractive). And of course, you got (Sex God) Mike Vogel. What a beautiful man! He even drops his pants and lifts up his shirt in this movie. Although all we see are his lovely thighs, I wanted ass! Or at least abs! But it helps that he is talking about his man-parts...

Also, Krysten Ritter's in this and I've recently become obsessed with her! (Confessions of a Shopaholic)...

Easy A (2010)
Loved it! There's something about Emma Stone that's just so magical, it's like when you read a book and a certain character pops out at you, well she's like a film version. This cast was fucking terrific! Alyson Michalka, Amanda Bynes, Cam Gigandet, Penn Badgley, Dan Byrd, Stanley Tucci, Lisa Kudrow, etc. I mean for real? YES!

It gets three pictures because it's awesome and because Penn Badgley's beautiful...

Two MORE first time viewings.
Wow, hilarious and dramatic! It's great and the cast (which is basically four people) is wonderful. Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen (those two got Oscar nods for this), and Julia Roberts who I was appauled to discover received no Oscar recognition for her role. One of the biggest snubs ever? Yes. Also, why were Clive & Natalie only "Supporting" roles? Ridiculous.

OMG the script! I really do wonder how Clive and Julia had the discipline to pull off this one scene, there must be thousands of out-takes somewhere...

In a word: heartfelt. Meaningful perhaps? Either way, it's lovely. The cast, OMG! Wow. Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore, Sam Rockwell, Melissa Leo (if only for 3 minutes). Loved it! Cried at the end...

The Help (2011)
Loved it. Although, I'd have loved it more if I hadn't read the book/if it were truer to the book. The book is my favourite book ever and will stay with me for a long time and the story itself was more or less spot on, I just had a few issues with what they left out. Including my very favourite part! :/ Oh well, I can still love it for what it is, and what it is is a great heart-warming film that can make you cry with laughter and with sadness at the end.

ANOTHER AMAZING CAST! Emma Stone (my new favourite), Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, Cicely Tyson, etc.

Once again, the Oscars have pissed me off. How can this have NOT won Best Picture? Also, how could you possibly nominate Jessica Chastain over Bryce Dallas Howard or Allison Janney or MAYBE even Sissy Spacek. Although I'll forgive them because Octavia Spencer won the category!

And although Viola Davis lost, I will accept it as Meryl Streep won. But what about Emma Stone? Another great snub.

Oh well, it did sweep the SAG Awards...

Wow. Ryan Reynolds is phenomenal. There's literally NO ONE ELSE in this movie. He deserved an Oscar nomination! Biggest snub ever.

I don't think that one man alone in a coffin a couple of feet under the ground with a phone, a lighter and temporarily a snake could ever get more gripping!

East is East (1999)
Love it! Toungue-in-cheek, hilarious, dramatic, rude, crude and everything inbetween!

The cast, though relatively unknown is brilliant as well! I also think it's very true to life on the religious side of things.

Insidious (2011)
Oh my fucking God, would rather die a slow painful death than watch this again. AND it won't leave my fucking head :'(

Had to use that picture, all the others were shit scary! :/ However, great performances and the sexy Patrick Wilson brought an upside to things. He also brought a lack of realism in the story to my attention: when a teacher is as sexy as he is, why don't any of his students (want to) have sex with him? There were no sex scenes? This isn't a real horror! LOL.
Silly, really.

The Kids Are All Right (2010)
Wow. Fuck me this is a great film! I bloody love it! The cast is fucking amazing! Annette Bening (she proper deserved that Golden Globe, yayy!), Julianne Moore, (Sex God) Mark Ruffalo, (Sex God) Josh Hutcherson (those 2 played father and son, we could've had some gay incest in there as well as lesbianism :P... although Mark did get naked...quite a bit actually...) and Mia Wasikowska who's a better actress than I've been giving her credit for, she's great but I hated her in Alice in Wonderland.

Eat Pray Love (2010)
Lovely. Julia Roberts was unforgivably ignored by the Academy! Not fair, she was amazing! I love the story, it's not just about love, or spirituality, or even food. It's about inner strength and self discovery. Loved the cast as well Viola Davis, Mike O'Malley, Javier Bardem, James Franco among others :)

Two more new first time viewings.
Well Meg Ryan is a good actress, and Tom Hanks (we share a birthday) is a good actor. But this film didn't wow me unfortunately, I mean I liked it and it made me giggle in places but it could've been so much better considering to context of the story... Oh well, it's charming enough I suppose.

JodieBoner's rating:

Fuck me! Wow this is fantastic. I bloody loved it, loved it. The story, the acting (which unfortunately passed under the radar a bit) from an amazing cast, consisting of: Keira Knightley, James McAvoy (who made me want to do dirty things to him in this, the little hottie), Saoirse Ronan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juno Temple, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave, etc. And I loved the sets, the locations were breathtaking!

In short a fantastic film that I can't recommend enough! Although it is a little confusing at first when it goes back to show you how stuff happened and it looks like things are being repeated... But only to stupid people like me.

The Avengers (2012)
Another great film. I used to be a huge fan of superhero films, I've started to watch them less over the last few years though but I think this could signify the beginning of my rediscovery, as I will definitely be the sequel, Thor 2, Iron Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man and of course The Dark Knight Rises...
I loved it! So many hotties too...
Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (he ends up naked yet again)

Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow (I swing both ways)

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye

and Tom Hiddleston as Loki

See, loads of sexy people! :)

All About Steve (2009)
I know I'm no critic, but I can't understand what people have against this movie. I think it's lovely! Firstly, you've got Sandra Bullock (incredible), then you've got Bradley Cooper (hot) and then you've got Thomas Haden Church (hilarious). Yes it's cheesy and silly and far-fetched and unrealistic but so what? Grow up people :P
