A year later, they appeared together in Houseboat (1958), but by that time Sophia had agreed to marry Italian film producer Carlo Ponti. "We had a very nice relationship, but I was 23 years old and Cary was much older than me. When you are 23, your ideas about love are not clear. You don’t know what you’re doing," the actress later said.
