An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Nicolas Cage, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, from the usual garbage Cage has been making during the last 20 years, I actually think this movie could have worked. Unfortunately, it was still pretty weak though. Basically, even though I have a weak spot for such movies, the damned thing was pretty much a cheap ‘Traffic’ knock-off and not really much more than that. One of the main issue was that, even though there was a decent cast of B actors involved (Laurence Fishburne, Leslie Bibb, Cole Hauser, Adam Goldberg, Barry Pepper, Clifton Collins Jr. ), all their characters got barely fleshed out at all. Seriously, for some of them like the characters played by Nicolas Cage and Laurence Fishburne, I didn’t really understand what was their actual role in the drug business. I mean, Cage seemed to be pretty high up in the hierarchy but, in this case, why would he take care of delivering the drugs himself at the end? Shouldn’t another courier take care of it, like during the rest of the trip? The running time was also probably an issue. Indeed, they had all these various characters and they wanted to display the whole drug production chain from Columbia to Canada but they tried to do it in less than 90 mins which was just not enough. For once, Nicolas Cage played his character in a rather straightforward fashion which made sense considering his work but it’s always more fun to see him playing some completely wacky over-the-top dude though. Anyway, to conclude, even though I do believe that the damned thing actually had some potential, I didn’t really care much for it and I don’t think it is worth a look.
