An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, unfortunately, it did turn out to be one of these cheap and above terribly underwhelming Euro action flicks and, even though it wasn't the worst I have seen so far, it was still a waste of time, I'm afraid. Indeed, even though the main character actually had some solid motivation, everything else was just so generic and predictable. Even the supposedly clever twist mid-through was hardly surprising at all. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that the action was taking place in Germany while the 4 main actors were all British. I mean, I understand, that's the whole point of the genre, the action has to take place in Europe, but is Germany so much more exotic than Great Britain? So, even though the cast was certainly talented (Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley), they were all rather miscast, except maybe Kingsley. Eventually, one of the few pleasures with this kind of movies is to see some fine actors really struggling with such weak material in order to deliver something actually watchable. In some cases, they actually almost succeeded but there is not much you can do with such pathetic dialogue. As I keep watching such movies, I keep wondering what could be the incentive for the actors involved. My guess is that they hired first Anthony Hopkins for a big paycheck for a very few amount of shooting days and, afterwards, everybody else agreed to join above all to have the opportunity to work with such a great actor. Anyway, to conclude, even though I have to admit that the damned thing was rather harmless, it was still really weak and you should probably avoid it.
