To be honest, I really had no idea what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Greta Gerwig, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be a rather misguided quirky college comedy and I really struggled to care about the damned thing. Apparently, it seems that the basic idea what was to play around with the stereotypes around this genre and to focus on some characters who were not your usual ‘cool’ college kids but it actually seriously backfired. Indeed, it never worked above all because these characters were never really interesting or entertaining after all. Furthermore, it was never clear what you should feel regarding these characters. Indeed, should we laugh about them? Should we feel sorry? Should we be inspired by them? At least, I have to admit that, in spite of the rather weak material, Greta Gerwig still managed to make her character intriguing which was rather impressive considering the fact that her character was actually rather weird and sometimes even downright obnoxious. Unfortunately, the rest of the cast was rather weak except for Analeigh Tipton who was not bad but, except for Violet, none of the characters were developed at all. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of a couple of good ideas and another solid performance by Greta Gerwig, the whole thing was just pretty weak and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
