A good movie

To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since Roger Ebert chose it as one of the best movies released in 2012, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, eventually, I thought it was indeed a sweet gentle drama and both leads gave some strong performances (it was especially pretty neat to see Andy Lau playing an ordinary guy for once) but I can't say it really blew me away. First of all, it is not a critic but I thought that both characters were just so lonely. Indeed, on one hand, you had Ah Tao who spent her whole life in servitude and never got married and, on the other hand, you had Roger who never got married either so they both had only each other but I'm not entirely sure that it was actually by choice. Furthermore, the whole angle of the sweet master who is so nice that he takes care of his old servant was difficult to swallow for me. I mean, in our modern age, do we still need this kind of relationships to start with? Anyway, to conclude, even though it didn't completely work for me, it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
