Description:
At 21 years old, Sage Erickson is a lot like the surroundings of her upbringing – part country, part surf, and full of life. Sage was born in Ojai, Calif., raised on the North Shore, taught herself to surf as a kid and continues to love life as a professional surfer. She is equally comfortable surfing an international contest as she is conducting on-camera interviews or hosting a fashion show in front of a crowd full of screaming fans.
It’s that competitive drive and playful spirit that sets this straight-A student apart from most of her peers, both in and out of the water.

She is equally comfortable surfing an international contest as she is conducting on-camera interviews or hosting a fashion show in front of a crowd full of screaming fans.
It’s that competitive drive and playful spirit that sets this straight-A student apart from most of her peers, both in and out of the water.
THE NATURAL
Sage and her family moved from Ojai to the North Shore of Oahu when she was just nine years old. She was first introduced to surfing by her older brother and dad, who both surfed regularly. One day at Sunset Beach, she paddled an old school board she found lying in the sand to the inside section. She got to her feet and rode it all the way to shore. After that, she started surfing several times a day, and the rest is history.
Hawaii proved to be the perfect training ground for a young surfer. She started fourth grade at the famed Sunset Beach Elementary, known for its location directly across the street from Pipeline and the alma mater of many young surf stars. In that fourth grade classroom, Sage sat directly next to another young surf star, Coco Ho, and the girls instantly became best friends. It wasn't long before the two started surfing heavier waves around the island, and shared dreams of traveling the world as professional surfers.
THE COMPETITOR
Since first entering an NSSA contest at age 14, Sage has been tough to beat. She won the NSSA Western Championships eight times and finished second overall in the 2008 NSSA Nationals in the Open Women's Division. She also competed and placed in several events, including a first place win at the ASP Sebastian Inlet Pro Junior in 2006.
Of all her achievements, Sage's coveted spot on the US National Surf Team and bronze medal from the 2007 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Portugal have been her most memorable.
In 2010, she edged out her O’Neill teammate, Malia Manuel, to take the women’s juniors division of the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Sage’s numerous podium finishes and outgoing spirit make her an ideal team rider and ambassador for the sport of surfing. She is always willing to do her part for the youth entering the sport, get in front of the camera for a promo video, or strut her stuff in front of a crowd (as she did in 2009 at the O'Neill/Teen Vogue Fashion Show in Laguna Beach!).
THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT
Currently, Sage's eyes are fixed on the future. She is competing on the WQS and aiming for the WCT in 2011. To prepare, she is regularly surfing with her older brother, Noah, who has been an influential force in her life.
With a can-do attitude, impressive work ethic and evolving talent, Sage is bound to become one of the biggest names in surfing in years to come.
