A Major League Baseball starting pitcher who pitched primarily for the Philadelphia Phillies (1948–1961). He spent the latter part of his career with the Baltimore Orioles (1962–1965), Houston Astros (1965–66), and Chicago Cubs (1966).
Roberts is the winner of 286 games, the 15 most wins for a pitcher after World War II. During Roberts' 14 seasons with the Phillies (1948-61), the team finished over .500 only four times, limiting his wins. In 1951 he had 21 victories for a team that went 73-81, while in 1954 he led the league in victories while pitching for a team that went 75-79.
