Robert Towne was an American screenwriter and director. He started writing films for Roger Corman, including "The Tomb of Ligeia" in 1964 and was later part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking. Towne wrote and won the Academy Award-winning original screenplay for Roman Polanski's "Chinatown" (1974); starring Jack Nicholson, widely considered one of the greatest screenplays ever written. Towne also served in the U.S. Army after the Korean War.

" "She created a tremendous amount of attention both to herself and to "Bonnie and Clyde" with her review - which changed the face of reviewing. The first reviews of the movie were so bad, everywhere, that you just thought, 'Well, that's it for this movie'... And then Pauline reviewed it in such a spectacular way that it caused a counter reaction." "
