Chronicling life in a remote Russian village. The only way to reach the mainland is to cross a lake by boat and the postman becomes the villagers only connection with the outside world. When his girlfriend moves to the city and then his outboard motor is stolen - meaning he can no longer deliver mail - the postman makes the decision to leave for the city too. But before long he returns for no apparent reason.
