To make things worse, there was another completely unnecessary and poorly developed sub-plot about some racial tension against a black family, apparently just to make sure that the viewers really understood that the US suburbs in the 50's were a really evil place to live. " DVD- 1hr. 44min. First Viewing There's a great film that can be produced by the story at the center of Suburbicon, but it's nowhere to be found in Suburbicon. This film is truly a case of tonal confusion; the design, performances, and script smack of a more comedic approach, and yet the film plays it almost totally straight. Make no mistake; this is a drama/thriller with little to no humor, and that clashes with the design. It also tries to juggle two storylines when it only really gets one; th"
