Thumbelina (1994)
"I know there's someone, somewhere, someone...
Who's sure to find me soon."
I still sing the songs from this movie all the time. The movie teaches you to love yourself for who you are, and to always follow your heart.
How it defined my childhood: I was afraid of going outside because I thought I would accidentally step on some woodland fairies searching for their true love.

The Swan Princess (1994)
"Far longer than forever, I'll hold you in my heart."
A magical story about a princess turned into a swan. Based off of the ballet, Swan Lake, The Swan Princess capitalized on true love and friendship.
How it defined my childhood: It gave me unrealistic expectations about Disney princes. Thanks Prince Derek. I was greatly disappointed by every animated man afterwards.
Extra points for making BLACK SWAN less traumatizing because I just started singing "No Fear" in the theater.

"God help my people. We look to You still.
God help the outcasts or nobody will."
Based on a novel by Victor Hugo, my parents bought me the VHS for this when I was very young. I watched it several times. Now, I probably was a little too small to understand fully what was happening, but damn, this was scary stuff at the end.
How it defined my childhood: It taught me that you can be the nicest person in the world, but if you're ugly, you'll never get the girl.

And I'm not sure if I'm the only person who thought that THIS PORTION was a little extreme and didn't belong in a kid's movie. No wonder I was terrified of organized religion as a little girl.
