As a big fan of the Daniels it was a no-brainer that this movie was going to be something spectacular. But unfortunately I found it to be just a big mess. There's way too much going on and it's really hard to follow at times.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
I was a big fan of Thor Ragnarok and felt that the tone and humor was in line with the alt-Marvel universe like Guardians and Deadpool. Love and Thunder was actually pretty forgettable, it was trying way too hard to be this almost 80's style romantic comedy.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
I was hoping this was going to be a return to PT Anderson's earlier films with the period San Fernando Valley setting. But I just found the whole thing to be really flat and underwhelming, and I just couldn't get past why this kid was so obsessed with an older girl when it clearly wasn't her looks nor her personality.
I love Judd Apatow, dude has a crazy good track record whether doing movies or tv series. This movie was just plain terrible, and maybe it sounded good on paper but the jokes fell flat and worst of all the heavy drama and character development that make his movies so memorable was just not there.
Don't Look Up (2021)
I remember this movie had a lot of hype as far back as when it was first announced, but I just felt very underwhelmed by the whole thing. DiCaprio really did his best to make something out of his role, but in the end he couldn't carry it on his own.
As stated in my mini-review, this just didn't work as a stand alone mob film. You really have to be dialed in as a Sopranos fan to enjoy it, and also to market this movie as a Tony Soprano origin story when he was only marginally part of the movie is just false advertising.
djprojexion's rating:

This movie was hyped up mainly because of the success of Top Gun Maverick, and while it boasted some great production values and a solid cast the material just fell flat in the end. On paper this must have sounded amazing, however I couldn't help but feel like there were far better Black Mirror episodes than this.
Antlers (2021)
It took me a while to see this, despite being a fan of Scott Cooper's work and the reason this didn't work for me is that the brother-sister relationship (played by Jesse Plemmons and Keri Russell) was far more interesting than the horror elements. It did have its moments, great gritty setting with some genuine real scares and the creature FX was pretty impressive, but despite that it just felt really run of the mill horror.
Everything great that's been said about this movie I could easily get from watching any of the Mission Impossibles (ie, entertaining, action packed, etc). I just thought the whole thing was very bland, with laughable dialogue and predictable writing. The final mission is something we've seen in every Star Wars movie or summer blockbuster. They should just continue to pump out more of these because it's basically the same reason we have ten Fast & Furiousesess.
Bacurau (2019)
I've been a fan of Brazilian cinema since the boom that followed City of God in the early 2000's and in recent years sadly distribution has been lacking. To show my support I did a blind buy on this from Kino Lorber and it just didn't work for me. It kind of departs from traditional Brazilian film storytelling in favor of something more allegorical, more Bunuel. On the one hand I could see why this got such warm reviews as it is very leftfield and different, but I found it to be a bit of a mess and not really clear what the point of it all was.
This is a list of movies I watched in 2022 (not all were released that year) that either did not live up to my expectations or were just plain bad, period.
