Deadpool (2016)
Any nominations for this one are a long shot. However, people will be talking about it, nonetheless. It has no chance at Best Picture; it was well liked, but not loved. It may pick up some technical awards, most likely Best Visual Effects. Maybe if the Academy is feeling generous, they'll give Ryan Reynolds a Best Actor nomination, but don't hold your breath, they don't like super comedic performances.

The Founder (2016)
Director John Lee Hancock has been picking up some steam in the last few years, and he got massive recognition by the Academy with "The Blind Side," even directing an Oscar winning performance by Sandra Bullock. The film is a bio-pic, so it has that going for it as well, and has screenwriter Robert D. Siegel, the same guy that wrote "The Wrestler." The film is also getting some pre-release buzz, floating around in Hollywood. With Michael Keaton making a huge comeback, and starring in two back-to-back Best Picture winners, and given it's release date close to Awards season, this one is definitely an Oscar contender. The only question at this point is if it will get in and for what.

Hail, Caesar! (2016)
Coen Brothers films are always considered come Oscar time. This however, has been seen as some as one of their lesser works, and the public was greatly dissatisfied. On top of being released in February, any chances it has are not super great. It is a film about old-time Hollywood, so maybe that will help its chances, but don't expect many nominations for this film, if any at all.

La La Land (2016)
Damien Chazelle hit gold with "Whiplash" just 2 years ago. It was a surprise Indie hit, and sent Chazelle's popularity into the stratosphere, directing a film that won 3 Oscars, when he was a nobody. Now the Academy will be paying very close attention to his next film, this one. Was "Whiplash" a fluke, or will Chazelle prove that he has what it takes to be a master of filmmaking? We'll just have to wait and see.

Money Monster (2016)
This film has some recipe for Oscar success. It focuses on a topical issue, (and as "The Big Short" proves, the Oscars are interested in Wall-Street financial crisis films) has lots of big name Oscar winners, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and is directed by Jodie Foster, another Oscar winner, though for acting, not directing. But there are some drawbacks. It's released in the summer, which means it may not be pining for the gold. The screenwriters do not inspire much hope, two of the three are don't have many major films under their belts, and the third one is a veteran, but has written some stinkers, like "Snow Dogs," "Taxi" and "Operation Dumbo Drop," with nothing spectacular on his resume. Jodie Foster has yet to direct an Oscar worthy picture, but her last film, "The Beaver," did show she has prowess for more serious films. In all likelihood, it may pick up some nominations for its performances, seeing as it's a performance driven film, but don't expect anything else from this film, unless it's better than I think it's going to be.

Zootopia (2016)
The reviews for this film are surprisingly positive. Like, really positive. This one all but feels like a lock for Best Animated Feature, and may very well be the winner. So the only question remains if it has a shot at Best Picture and Screenplay. You would think that since "Inside Out" couldn't get it, that it has no chance, but given the film's theme of promoting diversity, and with the massive Oscar controversy last year, who knows. It might actually have a chance.
