John Wojtowicz was an American bank robber whose story inspired the 1975 Oscar-winning film "Dog Day Afternoon", starring Al Pacino. Wojtowicz was the son of a Polish father and an Italian-American mother. He served in the United States Army and was posted to Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
