Humphrey Cobb was an Italian-born, Canadian-American screenwriter and novelist best known for writing the novel "Paths of Glory" (1935), which was made into the acclaimed 1957 anti-war film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick. Cobb was also the lead screenwriter on the 1937 film "San Quentin", starring Humphrey Bogart. Cobb also served in the Canadian Army a year before the United States entered World War I. He served for three years during the conflict, including duty on the front lines at the Battle of Amiens in France in 1918.
