Sebastian is the only Australian male artist in Australian chart history to achieve six number ones singles, and is third overall for all Australian acts. Only Kylie Minogue and Delta Goodrem have achieved more. He has also reached the top ten of the New Zealand charts with an album and five singles, including two number ones. Sebastian has 36 platinum and four gold certifications in Australia, the highest for an Australian Idol contestant. He has six platinum and two gold certifications in New Zealand. Sebastian's winner's single "Angels Brought Me Here" and debut album Just as I Am both debuted at number one. "Angels Brought Me Here" was the first Australian artist single to reach 4ร platinum certification in Australian chart history. In 2010 ARIA announced it was the highest selling song in Australia in the previous decade. Just as I Am first week sales of 163,711 were at time the highest one week sales ever achieved in Australia, and have since only been surpassed by Susan Boyle's debut album in 2009. With eventual sales just short of 7ร platinum, Just as I Am is the highest selling album ever released by an Australian Idol contestant. The second single "All I Need Is You" was a number one platinum seller. "Angels Brought Me Here" won the 2004 Highest Selling Single ARIA Award, with Just as I Am nominated for Highest Selling Album. Sebastian's next two albums were certified platinum. Beautiful Life showcased a stronger contemporary R&B sound and reached number two with a number one platinum lead single and two other top twenty singles. It was nominated for the 2005 Highest Selling Album ARIA Award. Closer to the Sun was a mix of genres, including pop-rock, soul, and jazz. It peaked at number four and produced two gold singles.
The Memphis Album was a cover album of soul classics recorded in Memphis with Steve Cropper and other members of American soul band the MGs. It peaked at number three and gaining double platinum certification, and was nominated for Highest Selling Album at the 2008 ARIA Awards. Like It Like That, which showed the influences of Sebastian's Memphis soul period, reached number six and platinum certification. The title track "Like it Like That" peaked at number one and gained triple platinum certification, and was the highest selling Australian artist song of 2009. "Art of Love", featuring Jordin Sparks, was a platinum top ten. Sebastian was nominated for six ARIA Music Awards for the album, including Best Pop Release and Best Male Artist. Twenty Ten, a retrospective album with songs from Sebastian's previous albums, two new songs and ten acoustic tracks was released in 2010. It peaked at number four, and was certified platinum. The album's only single "Who's That Girl", featuring US rapper Eve, reached number one and 4ร platinum certification. Sebastian received ARIA Award nominations for Single of the Year, Best Pop Release and Most Popular Australian Artist for "Who's That Girl", and won the Highest Selling Single ARIA. His seventh album Armageddon debuted at number two in October 2012 and has been certified gold. Four top ten singles have been released from the album, including "Don't Worry Be Happy" which peaked at number five and gained 4ร platinum certification, and "Battle Scars" which reached number one and 6ร platinum. Sebastian received ARIA Award nominations for Best Pop Release and Best Male Artist for "Battle Scars", and "Don't Worry Be Happy" was nominated as Song of the Year.
