At first, he wanted to work in architecture or law. He made up his mind very late on to become an actor.
A native of Canada, Gordon had made a career of playing despicable characters. His breakthrough came when he was cast as the pathologically evil Adam Carrington in the popular night-time soap opera "Dynasty" (1981). In 1984 when "Dynasty" ended he moved on to daytime soaps, including "Santa Barbara" (1984).
