Ruth Orkin was an award-winning photojournalist and filmmaker. Her career began by photographing Hollywood celebrities in the 1930's, and continued through the early 1980's with photographs taken her images, and was a humanist. In The Cardplayers, which was included in Edward Steichen's exhibition, The Family of Man, she immortalized three children playing cards. Her many portraits included a pensive Marlon Brando, a playful Alfred Hitchcock, and a laughing Albert Einstein.
