Ser Lancel Lannister is the eldest son of Kevan Lannister and a nephew of Tywin Lannister. He served as a squire for King Robert Baratheon until Robert's death. Soon afterwards, he was elevated to knighthood but sustained an arrow wound during the Battle of the Blackwater that required a prolonged convalescence. During his recovery, he embraced religion and joined the movement known as the Sparrows and abandoned his family name, after which he was simply known as Brother Lancel.
