Lord Katsumoto Moritsugu is a samurai warrior-poet who was once Emperor Meiji's most trusted teacher. Displeased with westernization policies during the Meiji Restoration, he organizes a revolt against the Imperial Army.

Katsumoto is based on real life samurai Saigō Takamori, who has been dubbed "the last true samurai".
